World on Fire
Poem: Ghosts of a Gruesome Past creep forward as Benchmarks of Society crumble
When the world is darkening
And unimaginable things are happening
When respect for all that is living has gone
History becomes a scant page lying in a dusty corner
Then we are consigned to oblivion
Losing sight of all that is paramount
Crumbled benchmarks of society
Freedom a hollow shadow cast away
When we ignore our responsibility
Ghosts of a gruesome past creep forward
Humanity a loose, barely threaded blanket
Unable to cover unspeakable occurrences
“Lest We Not Forget” a mere meaningless phrase
Remembrances precursors to indulgence
Spiritless occasions inconsequential in every way
A bleak, barren world without compassion
