Writing Daily Means Paying Attention to Your Life
And that’s why it’s such a powerful practice
What do I want to write about today?
What do I have to say today?
How am I feeling today?
These are all common questions I ask myself when I first sit down to write.
My mind is jumbled at first, trying to find its way in the dark. Lots of thoughts and ideas are bumping around the confines of my brain, like a pinball running up against the sides of the machine.
But eventually, the longer I sit here staring at the screen, an idea jumps out, asking to be written. A single train of thought becomes more intriguing than the others, and my fingers start typing.
Most of the time, I don’t know what’s going to come out.
I just begin, and before long, I’m shown the way.
I think this is one of the ways writing is magic.
For me, it’s like combining meditation with creativity.
You have to slow down enough that your mind stops wandering, and then focus enough that you’re producing something that can be understood by other humans. That’s the thing about writing—it has to make sense to more than just you (if you want your words and ideas to benefit…
