When you think of models from the '90s, what names come to mind? Is it Naomi Campbell? Linda Evangelista? Christy Turlington? Maybe it’s Cindy Crawford.

In a Euro-centric industry, one woman would go from a relative unknown to one of the biggest models of her time.

That woman was Yasmeen Ghauri. Born in Montreal, Canada to a German mother and Pakistani father, Yasmeen was discovered at age 17 while working at McDonald's.

At a time when few minority women were active, Ghauri became the face of Chanel, Christian Dior, Valentino, Versace, Hermès, and other brands. Her beauty and walk commanded attention on every runway. Yasmeen was the total package.

As captivated as I was by her beauty, I wanted to know the person behind the image. The more interviews I watched, the more I began to admire Yasmeen the person. In a world of vanity and excess, she remained level-headed and didn’t let success change her morals.
