Into the darkness, he went, so into the light I sprang!

Torment is a curse, we cannot escape,
Spiraling insanity, repeat the same mistake.

A huge heart filled with light, fragile as a feather,
Complex mind, dark thoughts, shackled by chains, gagged by leather.

Manipulation is natural, a part of our nature,
Caring and giving, please don’t judge our character.

We know who we are, who we want to be,
We are not broken, we feel caged, scratching to break free.

Scared by the face we see in the mirror,
Are we the forgiven saint that has sinned or the saint who remains a sinner?

Self-destructive, impulsive, we stand in our own way,
Fight or Flight, Predator or Prey.

Never malicious, nor an eye for an eye,
Empathetic to a fault but skilled at the white lie.

Negativity poisons our soul at the deepest core,
Consumed with others’ pain, paralyzed, never can sore.

Numbing the pain, so much shame, and regret,
Hidden within, anticipating the next threat.
