To identify the specific “star note” you need, search through your wallet. Your $1 bill could be worth close to $30,000.

One of many examples of dollar bills that sold for a hefty price was shared by TikToker and rare coin collector TreasureTown.

The bill in the TikTok looks identical to any other bill you may find in your wallet, complete with fold lines.

A closer look reveals a star at the end of the serial number to the left of Washington’s face.

This is referred to as a "star note," which is also called a Replacement Note.

Before money is sent into circulation, these markings are used by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) to replace damaged or incorrectly produced money.

The sole difference between these dollars and “regular” money is that the letter normally present at the end of the serial number was changed by the BEP to a star.

The serial number to the right of Washington’s face on the specific bill TreasureTown displayed in his video lacks the star but still contains the letter.

The TikToker demonstrated how, despite visible wear, this dollar sold for $29,900 in 2008.
