So many things you want to change in life!

Most people associate the turn of the year with the desire to change something in their lives. Something big — or maybe small — and important.

Are you one of them? Quit smoking. Run 5 miles every day. Learn a new language.

Write down three things you are grateful for. Because your yoga teacher told you so. You know, the one you saw 8 months ago. When you still participated in the course.

And then you fail. You visited your yoga course only for four months. Your last year’s new year’s resolution, remember?

I don’t set New Year’s resolutions.

I’ll explain why I don’t and why I think it’s useless.

The reasons why it probably won’t work

The first reason is that most resolutions are too broad and vague. They don’t specify the exact behavior or habit you want to change. This leaves room for excuses and rationalizations.

It can lead people back into their old habits in the long run.
