In life, we all go through ups and downs; it’s a cycle that no one can escape. All of us have experienced a very long, strenuous patch in our lives once before, and you may have noticed that there’s an unconscious entitlement to experience happiness once the storm has passed. We all pray, hope, and wish that someone or something would magically take us out of our rut without effort. After all, we deserve it, don’t we?

But who’s to say that we shouldn’t have to go out and find our happiness? Why is it expected that just because we went through a rough time, there’ll be rainbows on the other side? Just like everything else in life, you have to fight for it.

Happiness is no exception.

You may have had a terrible day at work or that article you posted didn’t do as well as you expected. There could’ve been various outcomes that made your day harder than it should’ve been. Once the day is over, it’s over. The storm has passed; Yet what will you do to guarantee your happiness at the end of the day? Will you just sit around at home hoping that a friend calls or texts you? Will you stare blankly at the TV hoping that your favorite show will broadcast for the night? I suspect not.

That sense of entitlement that happiness will be handed to you, will only lead to disappointment.

In turn, you should go out and grab your happiness.

Go out and get your favorite meal to soothe the day, buy yourself that drink you wanted, do some retail therapy, or go out and hit up a few friends. Never sit dormant with the thought that you deserve happiness due to your trials and tribulations. Your happiness is never guaranteed, but at least if you go out and actively try to achieve it, you’ll have a better chance of receiving it.

Stay positive and fight for your happiness.
