Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder, which is characterized by a prolonged fear of weight gain that leads to malnutrition and, most often, extreme weight loss.

As most of us have a certain degree of reluctance toward gaining weight or becoming overweight, some people might wonder if anorexia nervosa is a real disease. Yes, it is real. It has affected people who had never thought that they would be in that position.

As surprising as it might sound, anorexia nervosa is one of the most dangerous mental health issues. Anybody can suffer from anorexia nervosa, regardless of their age, sex orientation, gender, religion, race, and ethnicity.

The best way to prevent yourself from being a victim of anorexia nervosa is trying to know its possible causes, being informed of its symptoms and consequences, and being conscious of your own vulnerability and the critical moments of your life.

Because I believe that the more you know about anorexia nervosa, the more you’ll be able to identify it and seek help at an early stage. And the more self-aware you are, the easier you’ll come to reflect on your own eating habits.
