Someone asked me today: “How does change management work beyond individual projects in an organization that is experiencing a diabolocal degree of change?”

Remember learning to juggle? You start with one ball, master it, then add another, and then another. But in today’s business world, organizations don’t have the luxury of mastering one change before tackling the next. They’re constantly tossing multiple balls in the air — digital transformation, cultural shifts, process improvements — all while keeping the business running smoothly.

The Change Capacity Challenge

“We can only handle one major change at a time,” says conventional wisdom. But here’s the truth: organizations, like jugglers, can build their capacity for handling multiple changes simultaneously. According to McKinsey’s 2023 Global Survey, 75% of companies are pursuing three or more significant transformations simultaneously, and this number is rising¹.
