A glutton for self-flagellation, a black friend of mine decided to watch an entire interview with Candace Owens. He almost made it through.

I tried to watch a little. I couldn’t stomach it. I thought I could tolerate her since she is, like me, a black woman. Then I quickly saw… wow. She is just racist.

Just like gay people recognize that gay people can be homophobic, we should be on alert about anti-black and racist black people.

It took me living in Peru for 5 years to realize that the idea that black people can’t be racist had many flaws.

Here are some assumptions I hold and what they lead me to think.

A racist person is a person who supports racist ideas or policies or does nothing to stop them. True.

For many centuries, POC have been harmed most by racism. True.

See world history, last 500 years.

We breathe in racism — all of us. True.
