REASONS WHY I THINK MORE PEOPLE SHOULD READ SELF-HELP BOOKS

In a world where most people would prefer reading anything including classical, thriller, or romance novels over a seemingly boring self-help book, I urge you to read books targeted toward productivity and self-growth. I completely understand how some people dislike the concept of toxic productivity preached through books, podcasts, and inspirational life stories, but we need to understand that all of us need a push to do what we want to do. These motivational dialogues and texts give you that push.

Here are some of the ways self-help books helped me become more productive:

LEARNING TO FORM NEW HABITS:

My favorite book in this category is ATOMIC HABITS by James Clear. While I found the techniques provided to form habits very interesting, what was more interesting to me were the real-life stories regarding people who implemented these techniques to either make new healthy habits or eliminate the existing unhealthy habits.

So the credit for me sticking to my commitments goes to this book which helped me to start working out and stick to healthy eating habits, which might seem trivial to many but another thing I learned is that discipline starts with the smallest things.

LIVING IN THE PRESENT:

Learning to live in the present free from the regrets of the past and anxiety of the future is what I learned through the book, POWER OF NOW by Eckhart Tolle. This book urges you to learn to live in the ‘now’ as no problems and worries exist here. All our worries have to do with the past or the future. If you truly learn to live for the present moment you can get rid of all such problems.

Some might think of this concept as cliché but I believe bringing it into practice is the only way to know if it works for you or not. Pain and suffering are unavoidable but once you start observing it, feel its energy within you, and be mindful of it you can become the witness of the pain and it can no longer pretend to be you.

HOW TO STOP PROCRASTINATING AND GETTING THINGS DONE:

If you want to stop procrastinating I have the perfect book for you which is bound to get you up and about. Well, you might even procrastinate reading this book but that could be the last time you procrastinate if you read this book with the intention to change.

This book the 5-second rule is your solution to sticking to the commitments you make to yourself. If you want to work out, work up the courage to talk to your boss, or try out something new just count to 5,4,3,2,1, and get started with it.

Do I think these books are the solution to all your problems? Well, they certainly can be if you try implementing whatever you learn through these books. And what’s even interesting is that you don’t even have to read till the end to get a gist of it- reading it halfway would have the same effect.
