An unprecedented announcement this month:

Global Citizen is launching a first-of-its-kind international music touring circuit across the African continent called ‘Move Afrika’.

Every year for the next 5 years, the music festival ‘Move Afrika’ will be touring the African continent.

First stop? Rwanda.
First date? Dec. 6.
First headliner? Kendrick Lamar.

International advocacy organization Global Citizen and creative imprint pgLang announced on the 3rd of November, ‘Move Afrika: A Global Citizen Experience,’ a large-scale effort to pioneer an international music circuit across Africa.

“Our goal with Move Afrika is to inspire local youth and artists to unlock their creativity. We hope to curate an immersive experience that empowers various communities and cultures across Africa and around the world for a lifetime,” said pgLang in a Global Citizen interview.

Kendrick Lamar will headline the event, and pgLang (a company created by Lamar and Free) will serve as the official Curator for the tour.

Drive Investments & Showcase Local Artists.

In partnership with the Rwanda Development Board, the tour will empower local communities, artists, vendors, agencies, and crews to provide on-the-job skill development and training,

The goal: increase demand from international and regional artists to tour in the region, creating domestic value.

Music To Address Continental Issues.

The event will feature a citizen-led advocacy campaign calling for urgent action and commitments from world leaders on major issues across the continent, such as:

  • the need for increased funding for health, with a specific emphasis on women and girls;
  • addressing the climate crisis and its impact on food security;
  • tackling the lack of access to economic opportunities for future generations;
  • and encouraging civic participation.
