It is coming from someone who has been extremely short-tempered ever since she was a child.

I have witnessed tremendous growth in this matter over the years. I made sure I worked on myself and instituted strong relationships.

Here are the changes, or, I would say, improvements, that I made to make sure I have good relationships with my family, friends, etc.:

  1. IGNORE: The most merciful thing you can do to your heart and soul is to ignore and not pay any heed to what someone you love is saying. Sometimes, it’s not even the other person’s intent, and when you take such things to heart, you start to bottle up, which removes love for the person.
  2. THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK: Our loved ones are very sensitive to what we say, especially the immediate family. It does not mean they are weak, but they love us too much, and one hurtful statement can ruin everything for us.
  3. FORGIVE: Learn to forgive. I know it’s one of the most difficult things one can do. But boy, the elevation you get in your bonding! It’s truly amazing.
  4. BE NEVER SHY TO GIVE COMPLIMENTS: I am the kind of person who open-heartedly welcomes compliments. Be it for anything. And it makes me want to like the other relative even more. However, it should come from the heart and with pure intentions.
  5. OFFER HELP AND SUPPORT: Always reach out as fast as you can when a loved one needs you. It is one of the most comforting things you can do for the person you love. Just be there. Be present.

So, this is what I practice, and I recommend others to do the same, too. It has made me better myself and helped me maintain solid relationships.
