You can and will make money on Gumroad with this strategy and affiliate marketing. But you still do not promote affiliate links to make money on Gumroad. You will be using Chat GPT or Google Bard, and you will also need Canva.
In a nutshell, you create your content with a Microsoft Word document, then save it as a PDF before uploading it to Gumroad. This is super easy to do and completely safe. Because you will be selling “product review” PDF files.
But we will show you how to use Chat GPT to make this happen. Because AI can be a really great tool, if you learn how to use it properly, we will also show you how to do it.
Once done, your Gumroad profile should look like the illustration below. Showing your Gumroad site Title, Bio, and available products. But we will get into the entire strategy step-by-step in a bit.
But please follow the steps carefully and complete every step as guided by the illustrations. With this strategy, basically, your buyers will purchase the PDF file (short eBook 600–800 words) for only 1 Dollar.

Now to create these short PDF “eBooks” you can choose to use Chat GPT or Google Bard. What is of paramount importance, is what you tell AI to create content about.
Focus on things like product reviews and testimonials for instance. That way your Gumroad eBook gives your potential buyer an idea of the quality of the affiliate product.
With Chat GPT or Google Bard, you want to enter the right phrases, so the AI can understand exactly what you are looking for. Consider using the type of search we are suggesting below.

But you also want to edit the content once pasted to your Word document. Like bolding and centring key points. Separating paragraphs and making them shorter for increased readability.
Visitors will then buy your presentation eBook, and learn exactly what the product is about. And most likely purchase and test the product.
Because otherwise, they wouldn’t have bought your $1 presentation in the first place. Talk about a buyer with a credit card at hand, right? Unfortunately, you cannot make this a “free download”, therefore, just set your price to the minimum of $1.
But you must also offer value and a worthy read. Because you don’t want your Gumroad buyers to be disappointed with the $1 they just spent. Whether they buy your affiliate product or not, they still need to get their dollars’ worth.
Before we move on to the steps. Bear in mind that you are doing two things that require some transparency. Therefore, include both an AI content disclosure and affiliate disclosure in your short PDF eBook.

It is really easy to complete the steps, and there are 3 things you will have to create. Therefore, you will need Microsoft Word and PDF, along with Canva for your image designs. Below are what you will have to create.
Presentation Image.
Book Cover.
PDF File.
The presentation image is used in the short eBook itself, kind of like an introduction. Once your reader lands on the affiliate sales page, they will be familiar with the display. As can be seen in the Word document illustration earlier.
Inside Gumroad on the menu to the left, click on “Products”, then “New Product” if you have products on Gumroad already. If not, just click on “Create Product”. You will then start on the page as illustrated below.
This is where you set your product price ($1) and choose what kind of product it is. In this case, as can be seen above, “an eBook”. Our goal is not so much to make money with the sales on Gumroad.
The strategy here is to get people to buy from the PDF short eBook with valuable information. The kind of information that will create curiosity. Remember, they have already spent the $1 because they want to know more.
Once you have decided on a name, select the eBook option. And set your price to $1 you are ready to move on by clicking on “Next Customize” to the top right-hand side.
If you have already entered the name of your product on the previous page. Then it will automatically be included on the next page. As can be seen in the illustration below.
Write a proper description for the product. Highlight key points about what it is about, and what are the benefits. What can your buyer expect from what they are about to purchase? This is also your chance to create curiosity.
Try keeping the name of your product to a maximum of 5 words, because it displays better on your profile page. So your name “title” uses just one line. But the 5 words, in one line will depend on the word length.
As can be seen in the first illustration in this Medium story, our names “Gumroad product titles” are “Okinawa Flat Belly Tonic Review!”, “Learn The Benefits of LeanBiome!”, and “Your Personal Custom Keto Diet!”. Do you see how they all use one line under the product image?
Your entire presentation must create curiosity, the name, or titles are the most important, along with your logo and book cover images. But we have also chosen rather popular affiliate offers, seen by many people with a marketplace “gravity” of 800 and above.
Meaning these are highly competitive affiliate offers, perhaps we just like a challenge When creating and testing content marketing strategies for affiliate marketing.
When you create a content marketing strategy based on the “impossible”, and it works, well. Then you have succeeded in creating a worthy content marketing strategy to present to your readers.
Next up, your book cover. You will need Canva and just click on “Create New Design”, and from the menu choose “Book Cover” (1410 X 2250 pixels). There are even several templates in just about any niche you can use.
Make your book cover, an attention-grabbing cover. Because with your title, book cover, and thumbnail which we will look at in a bit. That is where you leverage curiosity, with the first impression.
JPG and PNG image formats are accepted on Gumroad. SO create your book cover in Canva, download it as a JPG or PNG file and then upload it to Gumroad. We do however suggest a PNG format.
PNG kind of creates a balance between the quality of the image and the load speed. For the thumbnail, you can use images from the “Unsplash” menu provided by Gumroad.
Scroll down this page and complete all the steps. There are 7 areas on this page you need to fill in and provide content and images for. These are.
Product Name.
Product Description.
Cover Image (Book Cover).
Thumbnail Provided By Gumroad.

Product Pricing ($1).
Don’t worry too much about all the other options you may notice, these are the ones you need to complete with this content marketing strategy.
Once you have completed this, click on “Save Changes” and then click on the “Content” tab, if you are not automatically redirected by Gumroad.
Gumroads’ “call-to-action” is rather favourable, so we suggest just leaving it at “I Want This!”. A summary is optional, but we suggest typing in a short summary anyway.
The page in the “Content” tab is where you are going to upload your PDF file. Once your visitor purchases, they will be able to download your PDF short “eBook” from Gumroad.
Simply click on the “Upload” icon as seen below in the illustration, right next to the “Old” Twitter bird. Then just choose to upload from a device or computer, so you can upload your own files.
You will see several other options, but you are selling your own products on Gumroad. Just don’t upload the Word document, it is an easy mistake to make. Perhaps create folders for your different products, making them easier accessible on your PC.
Then you just click on “publish” in the top right-hand side corner of Gumroad. After that, your product is live and ready for sale. But you also want to leverage Gumroads’ affiliates option.
This means, getting affiliates on Gumroad to sell your products. As we will be discussing next with the suggested commission structure in a bit. But you also want to set your product category and tags.
This can only be done once your product is live on Gumroad. But more about that in a moment, so keep reading to the end. Because this content marketing strategy is worth your time to test.
Setting up your affiliate network on Gumroad.
In your Gumroad home page navigation, right at the bottom, you will see your profile. Click on your profile and a popup menu will provide you with 3 options. “Profile”, “Affiliates”, and “Logout”. You want to click on “Affiliates”.
Gumroad takes around 40% of your sales, so be generous with your affiliates. We would consider a 20% commission rather fair, meaning you will only be making around 40% on your sales inside Gumroad.
But as mentioned earlier, the Gumroad sales are not our objective here. The affiliate product sales from the PDF documents are what we aim at for making money. After clicking on “Affiliates” you should be on the page as illustrated below.
You will see your affiliate link, with your Gumroad profile URL, along with your product, or products. Here you set the percentage that affiliates will earn, and as optional, you can also include the link to your Gumroad product.
You can access those from your “Product” page, but the URL you will copy there does not include the HTTPS part. When you enter your product URL here, be sure to add the HTTPS:// part. Otherwise, your link will not be accepted.
Next up, get exposure to your Gumroad products, and set the category. Along with the tags that best describe the Gumroad product you have just published.
Facebook and Twitter share magic for exposure.
Simply click on the buttons provided to share on Twitter, and Facebook. But also include trending hashtags with your post share. You might find that Facebook may take a little time to load.
Therefore, you can just copy the line of hashtags, text and links when posting to Twitter. Then use that to post on Facebook, it speeds up the process a bit. Or we might just have had a slow internet connection.
But also share your Facebook post with related Facebook Groups and Pages. It would be a great advantage if you already have your own Facebook Groups and Pages as we do.
Perhaps you can create a Facebook Page and Group representing your Gumroad products if you do not already have your own Facebook Groups and Pages. But that is just an added exposure bonus.
This is also where you set your Gumroad product category and tags. When you enter tags, be sure that they appear in a drop-down menu on Gumroad. And pay attention to the number of products using said tags.
Be sure to select “Display your product’s 1-to-5-star rating to prospective customers”. Ratings are very important, and although they might be slow in the beginning, it is important to display them.
