In this blog, I am adding all the resources that helped me write an effective resume and share the tips I learned.

Disclaimers

  1. I applied the resources & tips shared in this blog post to make an early career accounting (ACCA) resume.
  2. The tips shared may apply more to resumes sent for jobs in the UK, USA, and some European countries.
  3. Resumes for jobs in Australia, Asia, and some European countries (like Germany) have different criteria, and you may need to look up region-specific resources in addition to the general tips shared in this blog post.

The Google Way

I watched this video shared by Life on Google's YouTube channel a few years ago, and it has been beneficial in terms of what to include in the resume and how to present it.

PwC Approved

I found this video by YouTuber Adam Ramirez and applied the tips he shared to update my resume. He shared two resume templates in the description box that I found to be helpful, as most advice regarding resume writing includes showing the resume on the screen or sharing a screenshot of the document. Still, the exact fonts and formatting can be challenging to achieve. These templates resolve these issues and have proved to be super helpful.

Template 1

Template 2

Fun fact: Adam applied for an internship with PwC using template one and successfully entered.

Helpful Tips

  1. Use short and direct sentences. Share the impact you created (whether in numerical or non-numerical terms).
  2. Try toto keep the resume length to around 1 page (mine is 1.25 pages).
  3. Don’t forget to share your interests, as they may be a differentiating factor.
  4. You can keep multiple versions of the resume that slightly differ from one another to apply for somewhat different roles. For example, I have studied Accounting (ACCA) and have two resumes; one is purely for Accounting roles, and the other is for Finance Operations roles. The latter emphasizes the problem-solving and system-building aspects of my experiences. At the same time, the accounting one focuses more on pure accounting experiences like budgeting, managing accounts payables, the ability to use various accounting software, etc.

I hope you found these tips helpful. I wish you all the best in your journey to that dream role!
