Is Being Different Compatible? Contrast Is Complementary
Why do some contrasts not become complementary?
Here are some contrasts that become complementary;
Nuts-bolts, male-female, phase-neutral, Up-Down, Push-Pull, Right-Left, Inhale-Exhale, Open-Closed, Front-Back, On-Off
Why do some contrasts not become complementary?
Two religions, Two languages, Two cultures, Two nations, Two races
Unity in diversity is omnipresent. Beauty lies in diversity everywhere in nature.
I quote the most common example here to prove my point. Fold your fingers and hold them tightly in a fist. You can see that the fingers are of different sizes. If you fold them, they make a powerful grip. But, if the fingers are of the same size, they can never make a tight fist.
Is it not the different sizes of fingers that make such a powerful punch? Let’s move forward.
Mutual understanding of diverse cultures and religions is crucial in developing harmony and compassion. The city where I grew up is a peaceful mix of Hindus and Muslims living together in peace with love and compassion. I had many Muslim friends who enthusiastically joined us in our cultural festivals and religious events. I, too, did the same.
We fully understood the basic idea behind a celebration. And so, we respected each other’s rituals and religious practices. When we understand people of different religions and cultures, then differences turns into a bridge, not a barrier — as a result, it bridges the gaps between cultures and religions — one that connects us as human beings.
Our incredibly diversified world connects humanity through various cultures, languages, religions, colours, races, and nationalities. The presence of this variety is natural and proof of the peaceful coexistence that nature verifies.
However, there is a paradox within this diversity. While it is celebrated for its virtue, it can also unfortunately encourage conflict, segregation, chaos, and unrest because of the persistent conditioning of our mindset by some selfish conspirators. The presence of both positive and negative aspects makes us adopt a practical approach to harmony and compassion in our diverse global society.
It is to acknowledge diversity as an ongoing generator of innovation and diverse growth, rather than an instigator of conflicts.
Different individuals contribute to various aspects. Mixing different thoughts creates fresh ideas. Building bridges of understanding and compassion among diverse individuals is the way to get the optimum benefits of diversity.
A Need to Challenge
There is a need to challenge baseless norms and bluffing structures that keep alive inequality so that we can create environments where diversity becomes a confluence of diverse creative potentials.
There are obstacles in the way of creating a world that is more compassionate and peaceful. It requires that we acknowledge our assumptions and biases, question the norm, and defend equality and justice. It requires bold initiatives, resilience, and an unwavering dedication to the concepts of empathy and mutual understanding. We have the power to create a more promising and open-minded future for humanity.
People living in a country are citizens first, irrespective of the culture they are proud of, the religion they choose to worship, the language they speak, or the race they belong to. Although most of the countries accept it in their constitution, but situation differs in practice. Even the great United States as a self-proclaimed custodian of democracy in the globe has frequent conflicts between black and white, between natives and immigrants within the nation.
We can build bridges across culture, language, and nationality with empathy and compassion. To truly understand how someone feels and reacts, we need to be in their situation. If we picture ourselves experiencing someone’s anger, it helps us empathize with them on a deeper level.
Embrace Diversity for Global Beauty
Diversity is an insignia of the universal creative energy that keeps on creating unique varieties without a pause.
Look at your fingers. Are they equal in size?
Look at your fingerprints. Do they match with any other humans?
We are all unique and different from others.
Look at plants and trees. What a variety! What a diversity that pleases our eyes when we look around!
Look at the species. What mesmerizing shapes and designs! What a puzzling truth! Each one has a perfect body, from the tiniest to the largest!
We cannot survive without diversity. It is human selfishness that has created boundaries for regions, religions, races, languages, colors, and cultures.
We are the generation of humans who understand the cosmos and have dissected the bodies and brains of diverse species to understand the secret of existence.
If we lack a good reason to believe, shouldn’t we see diversity as similar to fingers of various sizes that come together to form a powerful fist?
