Note to the reader.

This article is based on my own personal experience and mistakes made on Medium. This content is Not a Medium terms or requirements guideline. These are just some choices I made that ended in catastrophe. I would much rather you avoid them. To Know More about Medium’s Rules, Please Read The Medium Terms And Conditions personally.

Paying The Price For Being Lazy.

Every content creator reaches the point of exhaustion when they have pretty much depleted their resources and knowledge. Or so they would think at a particular moment.

I’m sure most of you know exactly what I am talking about. That point you reach when fresh ideas seem to escape you, but you know you have to maintain consistency!

At that moment I decided to apply auto-posting software to Medium, thinking I could not keep up. This was my mistake; it would seem Medium does not take kindly to auto-posting tools.

Or shall I say, in my opinion? See, I have previously been on Medium since 2017. During that time, there was never any problem with my posts. Until I started using the auto-posting tool.

I do however think that another mistake contributed to my previous Medium account getting restricted. (I eventually just deleted it and started over)

The mistake of not creating bridge pages, landing pages, and proper websites. But just sharing cloaked affiliate links.

Making the exact mistake I often warn my readers not to do. Reaching a point of exhaustion can lead to actions (and stupid mistakes) one will later regret. Trust me, I know.

When you reach that point, take a break. DO NOT consider any “shortcuts”. I know now why you have to refuse to be outworked, out-willed, and outwitted.

I have learned a valuable and extremely expensive lesson; one I will never forget. Do not ever stray from your professional path, stay real, and stay humble!

What To Do And Not To Do With Medium Posts.

No matter how exhausting it gets to keep up, rather take a break. If you are not able to post for a few days, it will do a lot less damage than applying devastating shortcuts!

The 2 mistakes I can think of that I made, and where it aa went wrong are mentioned below. As there are no other reasons I can think of. My previous Medium profile got restricted, right after I made these 2 mistakes.

Do Not Use Auto Posting Tools.

Do Not Use Cloaked Or Direct Affiliate Links.

Admittedly, apart from “writer's block”, I got to the point where ideas would seem to escape me. I then neglected to create websites and bridge pages for affiliate offers.

Simply redirecting to poorly cloaked affiliate links, is a big mistake! That’s almost as bad as redirecting to raw affiliate links for heaven’s sake!

When you want to use Medium to generate sales with affiliate marketing, from experience I suggest you consider the following. The posts I have done on Medium for affiliate marketing in this way had never failed or disappointed me.

In fact, I was able to generate quite a few sales with Medium previously. But you have to stick to the rules. Be careful with your Medium profile, it is a perfect way to build recognition.

Redirect To A Bridge Page Website.

Never Redirect To Affiliate Offers.

Include Max 1 To 2 Text (Source) Reference.

Include An Affiliate Disclosure.

When you include links to bridge pages or websites representing affiliate offers, then you must include an affiliate disclosure in your article footer. You can get a better idea by simply searching your browser.

How Much Did My Mistake Cost Me?

Well, apart from over 120 articles? I also had to sacrifice 1.1K highly targeted followers with over 700 subscribers! Active followers and subscribers, reading, clapping and commenting on my articles.

What bothers me most is the fact that I couldn’t even contact a single one of my valued readers to at least offer apologies for my absence. My absence and broken links! (Reputation Devastation).

Over 120 Medium publications and URLs have been shared on several of my profiles. In blog posts, Quora answers, social networking posts, and Twitter tweets for 5 years, those are now all page 404 errors!

It took me a while to really understand the depth of the destruction that 2 really stupid mistakes could cause.

Deleting my previous Medium account was one of the most difficult things I ever had to do online. Unfortunately, I had to make the call, cut my losses (5 Years Of Content) and start over.

Only this time I am starting with a whole lot more knowledge. Still, starting over is a lot of work. But I’m no quitter. It’s just quite a bit to take in and come to terms with.

It was really a lot of hard work over 5 years building an active, responsive audience. But it also serves as a warning to me, never focus on just one content marketing strategy.

The strategy you set up and use can collapse at any time. It only took 2 really stupid mistakes to completely destroy one of mine. I do however intend to restore my Medium profile to its former status.

Starting Over With Medium.

I’m back because I don’t know how to quit. I just found another way that does not work for making money online. This is just a bend in the road, it’s not the end of the road.

Admittedly, my articles are much better this time around. Because I have a lot more knowledge and content marketing strategies to share. I will do my best not to disappoint this time around.

The silver lining is a chance to start over with more knowledge and be better than before.

Will I Ever Recover From This?

Sure I will, I have recovered from worse. Working your way through nearly a decade of failure means you will start over a few times. Some are just worse than others.

The key to online success, in my opinion, is to go from failure to failure without the loss of enthusiasm. I have no doubt that I will indeed recover from this, it’s a scratch (not really) …lol!

The past eleven days since starting over on Medium have already shown some growth. I particularly note the number of actual content reads and responses (Fans).

But I also need to thank all my awesome readers for their continued support. I made a mistake (actually two mistakes), and I really regret doing that!

The growth may be a bit slow, but it is consistent, and that in my opinion counts. I have even seen visits to my new Medium posts from Google, meaning traffic from search engines.

Reading time also looks good, along with several other referrals coming into play. Like Quora, where I use a content marketing strategy to get Medium visits and reads.

Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn are also slowly joining the referral team. All of which show a low bounce rate and spend more time with the content.

11 Days, 323 Views. 191 Reads, and 43 Fans. This might not be much but considering where this traffic is coming from. Well, that changes things a bit.

I am quite happy with the fact that there is growth, that is enough for me. Nothing heals instantly, this is a healing process, and it will take time. As long as there is growth!

Failure is a part of success, just like death is a part of life. Things that die usually give way to something way more spectacular. I for one cannot wait to see where this new Medium profile is going.

I assure you of my best efforts to always try and provide the best solutions and answers, especially to your traffic solutions. Besides, it’s what I love doing most, writing about effective content marketing strategies.
