The compelling power the green chartreuse flower vase had over Calvin was impressive, even for him. Having the attention span of a lab rat, he couldn’t shake the hypnotizing effect the vase had. It was like it called out to him.

He stood motionless in the foyer of his sister’s one million dollar home. A palace she was able to afford after a dirty divorce from her CEO ex-husband who was a famous art buyer from England. The vase that captivated Calvin for the past thirty minutes was a stolen piece from one of his ex-brother-in-law’s many art collections.

Calvin was drawn to its rustic finish and its imperfect handles. The chipped mouth was only visible once you approached the vase, which was a detrimental move. He could tell by the sharp, edged mouth that the vase had suffered some slight damage.

It had spent many years on this Earth, exchanging hands and owners. For such a precious, delicate item the mystery surrounding this vase carried a peculiarity that was unexplainable. Calvin’s mind went into survival mode, plotting how he would steal it. He had to have it. It called out to him.

Brenda, Calvin’s sister, noticed how much time had passed, having not seen her brother for quite a while. He disappeared from the breakfast nook and never came back. After twenty minutes, she knew…
