One of nature’s complete foods, milk has a special position in Ayurveda. According to Ashtanga Hridya, there are eight different kinds of milk, including cow, goat, camel, sheep, buffalo, horse, breast, and elephant milk.

Milk has an unctuous property called Singdha Guna and a sweet flavor called Madhura Rasa. Milk has a Madura Vipaka nature as well. Vipaka is the last flavor to emerge from digestion. Due to its cool and heavy nature, milk may diminish Vata and Pitta while promoting Kapha.

According to Ayurveda, un-boiled milk is difficult to digest, correctly boiled milk is digestible, and overboiled milk is indigestible. Warm, fresh milk from an udder is regarded as nectar in Ayurveda. The use of milk from animals fed on easily digested foods, such as green grass, is also encouraged by Ayurveda. Additionally, Ayurveda advises using milk taken from an animal in the evening because it is easier to digest than milk taken in the morning

Cow’s milk is said to be a rejuvenator in Ayurveda, which also claims that it strengthens the body, boosts intelligence, quells hunger and thirst, and reduces exhaustion. Buffalo milk is heavier than cow’s milk and is best suited for people with strong digestive fire. For insomnia, try buffalo milk.

Goat milk is quite easy to digest. When suffering from conditions like chronic fever, diarrhea, and tuberculosis, it is advised to drink goat milk. Camel’s milk has a hot potency and is easily digested. Camel’s milk is a helpful indigestion remedy because it facilitates better digestion.

Ayurveda uses breast milk as an eye cure. Eye illnesses brought on by Vata, Pita^, and blood disorders can benefit from it. It is also helpful to treat eye injuries.

Sheep milk is beneficial for reducing Vata imbalance but bad for the heart, according to Ayurveda. It has hot potency and can aggravate Pitta and Kapha. Elephant milk, according to Ayurveda, strengthens the body. According to Ayurveda, elephant milk gives strength to the body.
