Race Neutrality is The New Racism

How the right turned the concept of equality on its head

There’s a new racism in town.

And his name is race neutrality.

Since our nation’s founding, the right-wing (sometimes called Democrats and sometimes Republicans) has perpetrated racism every step of the way.

It started with American slavery which was still in full swing for nearly 100 years after the Declaration of Independence was adopted on July 4, 1776, which falsely stated that America was a place where “all men are created equal.”

Slavery was brutal. The shackles, rapes, and the beatings were the least of it.

American slavery stripped hundreds of thousands of Africans shipped to these shores of their names, religions, and culture. It enslaved them, and the millions of their descendants over hundreds of years, all beginning in the early 1500s. I don’t need to recount how awful it was.

American slavery was premised on racism. That Black people were inferior.

When it finally ended on June 19, 1865, American racism remained in full swing.

Jim Crow laws passed and enforced by former slave owners and KKK members who voted into office ensured that the entire post-slavery legal system was based…
