Creating an impression without boasting.

Building recognition and gaining your audience’s trust is hard work and it can take years. Not only does your content have to solve problems, offer value, and be consistent. But it must also attract attention.

As for algorithms (to the best of my knowledge), from what I have experienced. It would seem that constant “activity” is the “key” to maintaining ranking positions.

But I have also found that consistent engagement turned out to be the “key” to just about any growth. If you want to start creating a “snowball effect”, then you gotta get busy! Prepare for long hours.

You need to have content of such quality and presentation that people want to know more — AKA — creating curiosity. Obviously mentioning people, responding etc. should establish a presence, right?

Yes, it will, but the question is. Will it create a lasting impression through curiosity? In my experience, when you create and satisfy a certain curiosity (interest or need). You get to create a lasting impression.

Attracting attention on Facebook.

Facebook offers you a lot of tools to attract attention. All you have to do is learn how to use them. Tagging and mentioning people, as with most of the other platforms is where you start.

Every major social and networking giant has their own options to engage with audiences. These are all free tools but are often overlooked because it require a lot of work

For instance, with Facebook, you want to tag friends when posting. This bears a striking resemblance to mentioning other writers in Medium stories. Because it means just one thing “recognition boost”.

As illustrated above, after clicking on “Edit Post” on Facebook. A list will open where you can search for friends or choose from the drop-down menu provided by Facebook.

Mentioning and tagging other people means they too get exposure, therefore they are much more likely to respond back. Which is precisely the whole point, maintaining constant activity.

But apart from tagging and mentioning people on Facebook, you can also share your Medium stories in Facebook Groups, Pages, and on a friend’s timeline (please have their explicit permission to do so).

With Facebook, a few things you want to concentrate on (besides quality content and presentation) are as mentioned below. In a nutshell, this is how to maintain an active audience on Facebook that works for me.

Tagging And Mentioning.

Using Gifs.

Using Emojis.

Adding a little humour.

Adding a little humour where appropriate and applicable also comes in rather handy. Just be yourself and say what comes to mind. And then be just as surprised as the rest of the people.

However, always steer clear of judgmental or belittling responses, if you don’t agree, then just scroll past. Always be cautious of how you treat other people, it does not mean you’re weak, it means you have honour!

Leveraging Twitter and attracting attention.

This is a content marketing strategy I am testing, focusing primarily on getting more Medium visitors. Where I would share my Medium stories to multiple Twitter profiles within the same niche.

Basically, I use videos. From turning Medium stories into YouTube videos to music videos, and even inspirational videos. All redirecting to my Medium profile and/or Medium stories.

Admittedly, I still have many video descriptions in which I have to change the URL. I have recently focused all my new YouTube video uploads primarily on driving traffic to Medium.

As illustrated below, a screenshot from one of my Twitter accounts. I shared one of my Medium stories about creating free music videos. Along with a music video on YouTube related to the topic.

Please pay extra mind to your YouTube video thumbnail and your Medium story presentation image. As seen below, those are the images that will be displayed with your tweet.

Images form a rather large part of creating curiosity. Because your presentation must turn a scroll into a click, a click into a visitor, and most likely, a buyer.

Both of the Twitter tweets above redirect to one place only, Medium. The video description contains a link to my Medium profile. While the above post is the presentation image of a Medium story.

But with all social posts, you also want to include the trending hashtags relevant to your topic. You don’t just need “clicks”; you need people that are interested in your content. Use a tool called “hashtags(dot)org”.

Then you want to pay attention to the responses to the tweets over a few hours or days, then pin the tweet with the most responses to your Twitter profile.

LinkedIn articles and 1.5 billion visitors.

LinkedIn articles are another way to get a lot of attention, depending on the quality of your content of course. But before we go on, I will let you know that I also had to start over on LinkedIn, just as I had to with Medium.

But I have already discussed that topic and reasons in other Medium posts. Having had to start over on these two platforms really kicked a dent in my online audience numbers. I lost nearly 30K targeted followers on LinkedIn alone!

All I can say is, be really careful which tools you use, and always contact any particular site support to confirm that it is safe and acceptable to use with the site. Please don’t make the same mistakes I did.

But you can read all about that in the above Medium story. These mistakes cost me a tiny fortune in “college fees”, no need for you to “pay the same price”. It is a really heavy price to pay and years of hard work down the drain!

LinkedIn has over 1.5 billion monthly visits, making it a traffic tsunami opportunity. And it is also included in the Medium story sharing options to share your Medium story on LinkedIn.

So you might want to start looking into writing articles on LinkedIn just as you do with Medium. Then you might want to join relevant LinkedIn groups (much like Facebook) and share your LinkedIn articles with them.

What I also do is feature all my Medium stories on my LinkedIn profile, after sharing them from Medium. As illustrated below, your Medium story presentation image and story are then featured in a compilation.

However, although I know that LinkedIn articles work from previous experience (On LinkedIn And Medium Since 2017). I am yet to write a few articles for my new LinkedIn profile. Just putting this out there.

As mentioned before, through really stupid mistakes I have a mountain of work to catch up on. But the knowledge I have gathered through failure during the years is priceless.

This time I am not starting from “scratch”, I am starting from “knowledge”, which makes a rather remarkable difference.

When you add your Medium stories to your LinkedIn profile, it is the first thing people see when visiting your LinkedIn profile. Again, as I have mentioned before I am working on a content marketing strategy focusing primarily on Medium.

You can use these strategies to drive traffic to any URL, except direct affiliate links, especially on major social networking platforms. That is the fastest way to self-destruct your online career.

Always try to share a hosted domain or any other domain that is indexable in search engines. With affiliate marketing, it is from this indexable URL that you redirect to affiliate offers.

Bridge pages, landing pages, websites, blogs, online stores, and so much more. Just as long as you share indexable URLs.

Mention other writers and authors.

Mentioning other authors and writers, in my experience, must be the fastest way to grow on Medium. Since I started on Medium (October 06, 2022). I have published 142 stories; this one is number 143. But I have enjoyed the excitement of attracting over 2000 responses!

attracting attention by responding on medium stories comments

That comes down to an average of around 14 to 15 responses per Medium story. For a brand-new medium profile, I am rather happy with the results. All because I mention and show gratitude to other professional authors’ guidance.

Always remember that reads and responses are where your “power” lies with Medium. A view is just a view, but a read, a response (comments/claps), and a subscriber means consistent growth.

Those are the people that are truly interested in your content. That is also why you sometimes need quite a staggering “view” count, in order to have a staggering response and subscriber count.

Because not everyone who sees your content will be interested in it. That is just how content marketing and content marketing strategies work. One really good way to boost engagement is to target a specific GEO location based on interests.

Respond back to other writers and authors.

When other writers, authors, and readers start responding to your Medium stories. It is important to get back to them and respond in return. That is how you start a conversation.

But the larger your audience grows, the more comments and responses you start to get. The more challenging it will become to keep up. I often reach the 100 comments per 24-hour “barrier” on Medium just by responding back.

It all forms part of a much larger exposure picture, focusing on gaining recognition and building trust. Those are two of the paramount cornerstones to your online success, and the castle of your Empire.
