Sleep is nothing less than a pot blessing. It serves as a reward for the hard work and strenuous efforts our body endures throughout the day. Different parts of the body function mechanically and require rest to rejuvenate and regain energy.

This rest is achieved through sleep, and nowadays, quality sleep is becoming increasingly rare. It is often said that “sound sleep is a privilege for the fortunate.”

Achieving good sleep requires a form of practice.

The health of the body and the intellect depends on getting enough sleep. It needs discipline and harmony between physical exertion and mental peace to get a decent night’s sleep.

Saints and ascetics exemplify this balance by staying active and engaging in various constructive activities while maintaining inner peace. Quality sleep is vital to a healthy life, and those who prioritize it can lead more fulfilling lives.

It is commonly observed that saints and ascetics are never idle. When they are not engaged in spiritual practices and preaching, they can be found tending to their gardens, crafting, researching herbs, or serving animals and birds.

This makes it clear that they neither let their bodies sit idle nor their minds. Saints never lament about not getting a good night’s sleep. In the present time, a large number of people struggle with insomnia. Everyone exhausts their minds, but nobody pays attention to devouring their bodies.

A recent research study published in PLOS ONE has brought forth compelling findings indicating that the quality of sleep plays a more significant role in determining one’s quality of life compared to sleep duration and the phenomenon known as “social jetlag,” which occurs when an individual’s biological sleep patterns do not align with socially imposed sleep schedules.

This study meticulously examined the impacts of these three sleep-related variables on Czech study participants from 2018 to 2020.

The noteworthy discovery from this research was that sleep quality emerged as a predominant factor influencing an individual’s overall quality of life, surpassing the influence of sleep duration and social jetlag.

A 2021 study published in Sleep Science established a clear connection between inadequate sleep quality and a decline in overall quality of life, particularly among participants who reported symptoms of depression or anxiety.

As per details from the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, ensuring adequate restful sleep provides numerous advantages.

Unfortunately, information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reveals that many American adults belong to this group.

One-third need to get adequate sleep.

This concerning statistic underscores the need for heightened awareness and efforts to address the population’s insufficient sleep issue.

In essence, this study underscores the critical importance of focusing on the quality of one’s sleep as a key determinant of well-being and overall quality of life.

Osho has said, “A healthy body means a disciplined body. If the body says sleep is coming, then the body says yes, it is coming. An unhealthy body means it has stopped listening to orders.”

The mind, which has become the master of the body, shapes the body according to its desires, seeking pleasure, indulgence, luxury, and laziness.

When the mind complains about losing sleep, do not listen to the reason; do the bodywork as required, and rest will automatically visit every night. Those with healthy bodies will enjoy sound sleep, and those with good sleep will become rightful enjoyers of a healthy life.
