Stress can be defined as a state of worry or mental tension caused by a difficult situation. Stress is a natural human response that prompts us to address challenges and threats in our lives. Everyone experiences stress to some degree. The way we respond to stress, however, makes a big difference to our overall well-being.

It’s Your Response to stress that determines if you would remain in Stress mode or if you would become normal again. Why Normal? Because when we are in stress mode, there is a physical response to external stimuli. when the body is stressed, it thinks it’s in danger and switches from “Normal reasoning” to “fight or flight mode” that is why you need to take your body and mind off these modes and return to the normal reasoning process

Is It Okay To Feel Stressed

Stress in itself is not a bad thing. Sometimes stress can be a positive force, motivating you to perform well at your piano recital or job interview. But often — like when you’re stuck in traffic — it’s a negative force. If you experience stress over a prolonged period, it could become chronic — unless you take action.

Can Stress Be Felt

Have you ever found yourself with sweaty hands on a first date or felt your heart pound during a scary movie? Then you know you can feel stress in both your mind and body.

This automatic response developed in our ancient ancestors as a way to protect them from predators and other threats. Faced with danger, the body kicks into gear, flooding the body with stress hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol that elevate your heart rate, increase your blood pressure, boost your energy, and prepare you to deal with the problem.

These days, you’re not likely to face the threat of being eaten. But you probably do confront multiple challenges every day, such as meeting deadlines, paying bills, and juggling childcare that makes your body react the same way. As a result, your body’s natural alarm system — the “fight or flight” response — may be stuck in the on position. And that can have serious consequences for your health.

What are the consequences of overstaying in the Stress Mode?

The long-term activation of the stress response system and the overexposure to cortisol and other stress hormones that come with it can disrupt almost all of your body’s processes. This can put you at increased risk for a variety of physical and mental health problems, including anxiety, depression, digestive issues, headaches, muscle tension and pain, heart disease, heart attack, high blood pressure, stroke, sleep problems, weight gain, and memory and concentration impairment.

That’s not all, a lot of people have a lot of bad responses to stress mode. They choose to forget it instead of facing it and to forget it, they take all sorts of mind-altering substances e.g Drugs, highly alcoholic drinks, cigarettes, cocaine, marijuana, etc. These substances have a high negative impact on the Physical and Mental Health of the person. This in this case is the real danger of stress. Not necessarily in the stress itself, but in the negative response to it.

How Can I Push Out of Stress Mode

A variety of measures have been stated to take care of this issue of stress, some of which are:

  1. Get plenty of sleep: Most times we are stressed because we keep our brains working all night. Save yourself from stress, and finish up all activities you might need to do at night before it’s late, get adequate sleep. This is so your mind is renewed and you can think straight.
  2. Eat healthily: Do not eat plenty or gluttony, eat what your body and mind need, and don’t just go about eating junk because they are tasty.
  3. Exercise regularly: Both physically and mentally. There are exercises for physical and mental health. These include push-ups, pull-ups, and running and jogging exercises for your physical health. Meditation, Yoga, etc
  4. Consume Good Music: Music has a way of pushing you out of stress mode faster than other methods, however, this is depending on the type of music you consume. You can’t listen to jazz under stress and expect to get out of it, it would only worsen your situation. I recommend classic music, they have simple lyrics, and soft tones, unlike the blaring ones in jazz and hip-hop music. These are the qualities your brain needs in that particular moment
  5. Minimize anger: This is one of the spearheaders of stress in the mind of an individual. Avoid completely anything that would get you angry, always sport a smile on your face and heart. Even when someone tries to be a thorn in your flesh and keeps annoying you, or you find yourself in a situation or place that makes you angry, Just Walk Out.
  6. Engage family and friends: It’s not a good idea to be a loner with you bumping in and out of stress mode regularly. Socialize with others, especially friends and family. You’d be lucky to have one or two Sanguines as friends, they work wonders on people with stress-aligned issues.
