Summer’s Refuge
A poem about where Summer goes when Winter arrives.
The snow fell down, from clouds of grey
This cold morn birthed a frosty day
The world’s transformed, a sphere of white
I look out and am pierced by light
Summer hides below, n’er found
Does she hear flakes fall on the firmest ground?
In her retreat, in caves below
Does she even think of the snow?
Can she fathom a milk-tint world?
Without sweet buds, yet to unfurl?
Or does she only know of green?
Bright shades that bloom where she is the queen?
I imagine her, in warm abode
Luminescent eyes, soft purple robe
Sits silently till spring boughs appear
We’re helped to face the harsh frontier
Knowing her warmth will reappear.
