Ever looked at those people breezing through life with a grin and thought, "What’s their secret?"

Let me explain the psychology behind this seemingly carefree approach and how you can join the worry-free gang.

How can I be doing this with no doctoral credentials in psychology?

Well, spoiler alert: I am one of these optimistic people.

Just your next-door, optimistic person making lemonade from all the lemons that life gives them.

Credentials Check:

A while back, a trend hit where friends dished out colors based on personality. Need proof? Here’s my glowing review from my besties:

— For me, ur orange, like u r soo happy and bright, like idk it feels like u, like ur so loud and optimistic.

— I think for me you are yellow….. Positivity, always laughing, making jokes, fun, bright, witty, smart, intelligent …. The foody among us three… So i think areebah is yellow.

I got 'Orange' and 'Yellow,' aka the happy, bright, and loud one.

Life’s Unfair, but You Can Still Be Fair to Yourself:

Life may not be fair to everyone equally, but that doesn’t mean we can’t strive for a worry-free existence.

Here’s my guide to living stress-free:

  1. Gratitude:
  • At the end of each day, before drifting into slumberland, I reflect on three things I’m grateful for.
  • My constants: faith, family, and the basics like food and clothes. Privilege is a word that the privileged often do not acknowledge. I always think of the photo by Kevin Carter’s most famous photo, The Vulture And The Little Girl, captured during the Sudan famine of 1993.

2. Humor:

  • “Humor is perhaps a sense of intellectual perspective: an awareness that some things are really important, others not; and that the two kinds are most oddly jumbled in everyday affairs.” — Christopher Morley
  • Life honestly becomes so much easier with a sense of humor. So choose your brand of humor – comedy, sarcasm, satire – and apply it liberally to life’s situations. After all, a day without laughter is a day wasted.

The Epic Finale:

Stop the guilt trip, think clearly, embrace your values, stay as calm as a river, and let life unfold.

Trust that it has a way of coming full circle.

Reach your destination dressed in confidence, perhaps with sunglasses and a pack of biscuits.
