“They’re eating the dogs, the people that came in, they’re eating the cats, they’re eating the pets of the people that live there.” — Donald Trump

And so began the crisis of the Great MAGA Migrant Mental Meltdown. After Donald Trump’s unhinged declaration that there was a war on pets being waged by dastardly black immigrants who “invaded” Smalltown America, the right-wing propaganda machine sprang into motion.

Soon social media was abuzz with commentaries, legal suggestions, allegations, outrage, and even photos and a video of the alleged activity. Of course, as with most MAGA conspiracies, the hype was quickly debunked, MAGA calmed down and everything returned to normal.

Instead, MAGA-world doubled down on its claims and redoubled its efforts to prove that the MSM, the Biden administration, and the ghost of infamous leftist Josef Stalin, conspired to suppress media coverage of the terrible pet purge that was taking place.

JD Vance, the relatively sane(?) part of the Trump duo, even jumped into the fray. He said his office was getting a lot of calls from Ohioans who were upset about their dogs and cats being stolen and eaten.

Meanwhile, others on social media began to question the narrative, with many people pointing out that no credible evidence supported these claims. By then, Springfield city officials including the mayor, city manager, and police department announced that there was no evidence that Haitian migrants were harming pets.

Soon after city officials weighed in on the claims, MAGA decided it was all a big misunderstanding and retracted all of their allegations, which they did not do.

Realizing the absurdity and glaring lack of evidence — not even a single grainy photo — to support their claims, the narrative gradually shifted to accusations that the Haitians were capturing geese for food and Voodoo rituals. These allegations were also swiftly debunked and MAGA finally put all of its ridiculous unsubstantiated rumors to rest — except they did not.

At the time of this writing, MAGA operatives are still promoting these claims, but why?

There are nefarious motives behind the comically absurd and often overblown allegations and conspiracies that promulgate from the fever dreams of twisted MAGA minds. The goal is to dehumanize a group of people, which is the first step toward oppressing them.

We have witnessed this so many times. Whether it is Hitler with the Jewish people and the Romani, South Africa with apartheid, or Trump with Latinos, black people, and others of color, the strategy is the same. Once a group of people is dehumanized, there are no limits to the atrocities that can be inflicted upon them.

From the horrors of American chattel slavery to the ethnic genocide of the Jewish people and all of the other heinous acts of injustice throughout history, the common denominators are always dehumanization, oppression, and ultimately violence.
