Are Your Spiritual Principles Leading You Astray?

The Scam Set-up

I happened to catch a social media post in which someone was talking about being scammed online. This is common in any industry, I’m sure, but if you are familiar with me, then you know my other passion is parrots. Parrots can cost as little as $100 or as much as $100,000 plus depending on the species.

Yeah, people get scammed buying parrots.

That got me thinking… scams can happen to sellers or buyers of parrots, but it can also happen to people pursuing love, spirituality- anything.

Then I realized that the ultimate scam is one you are experiencing or have experienced — by the last person you expected!

In my last article, I said:

You’ve heard about LOA, Law of Attraction.

You’ve heard about ‘feeling how you will feel’ when you have what you want.

You’ve heard about just being divine, your I AM; about just being what you want to manifest.

You’ve visualized, chanted, prayed and Om’d.

This time I’m adding:

You’ve been told to follow your heart’s desire;
and that you are meant to be happy and fulfilled.

Yes, we can get scammed, cheated and mistreated by others, and sometimes we feel cheated by God or life, but you can only get tricked when you hold an expectation.

So, How do You Live a More Spiritual Life Without Being Bamboozled?

I’ve heard so many gurus say, “Follow what makes you happy,” but there are caveats that go with this statement.

Avoid Hoodwinking Yourself

And then I thought, the worst is when people betray themselves. The ultimate scam. Worst part, we all do it — to one degree or another.

How You Get Scammed

Follow Your Heart Has Caveats by Author

A little while ago I heard that 90% of new yoga businesses fail.

Undoubtedly, people decide to follow their passion. Isn’t that what they are supposed to do?

They want:
— a life with less stress

- they want to help others get healthier

- they want to do something that is easier than dealing with their difficult boss or clients

- they are after the ‘work-life’ style of living

No doubt! The chaotic lives most lead don’t promote health or well-being.

More Thank Wanting a Change

Shunned by Love, Money & a Passion-filled Life — by Author

Frankly, one of the things that happens is that you get tired, disappointed that love, money and a passion-filled life have shunned you.

When it comes to parrots specifically, people want a pet to love; a companion. It’s similar to wanting a friend or romantic relationship. They watch clips of videos or see photos of parrots being sweet, cute, entertaining and loving — and they get sold. A source of love, and good-feelings.

However, when you feel that life has dodged or rejected you, you get desperate. You want to get that companion parrot so badly that it starts to hurt and you become an easy mark. After all, you’re already sold even though you haven’t seen the ‘product.’

Avoid Desperation: a Sign You’ll Jump off the Cliff

Being “sold” means that you are focused on your expectations. If you start to look for the outcome and grasp at it, losing sight of the process, you become a ‘mark’ for a scammer.

This is when people lose site of how to follow their heart’s desire. They are no longer applying the spiritual principles, like using LOA or feeling how they will feel with the bird, because they are holding the energy of expectation. Expectation can quickly turn into a grasping energy that is the opposite of holding and activating the love, companionship, and more that you truly want.

Again, it’s not just parrot sales that hold scammers. People, everyone, do this to themselves all of the time.

You lose your focus and clarity. For example, the person working 9 to 5 or more, is tired, frustrated and unhappy at work. This becomes their -negative- focus: the problems they are experiencing.

Now they are distracted. Instead of using the spiritual principles they have learned, — which sound like:

o follow your passion

o Feel how you will feel as a yogi

o Choose to be happy and tap into your wellbeing

They are unhappy, and trying to find out how to ditch their job/boss/clients and stress with a new, perfect yoga studio.

Scamming yourself happens when you are looking for something outside to fix you, change your experience or make things better for you.

Ironically, when people do get a parrot successfully, it’s not uncommon that it bites them and screams. After all, they are wild, exotic animals.

When you get the parrot, like a puppy, you have to work through the biting phase and you have to tame them. You have to do training or what ever it takes. Often this requires spending a significant amount of time figuring out what it takes and then doing that.

Turns out there’s no quick fix, no ‘easy money-maker.

Follow Your Passion

Passion by Author

Avoid scamming yourself. Apply your universal laws.

Passion Givies You the Vision of What You LOVE
Come to understand that people who follow their passion are so focused on what they love that they work through the parrot biting them, the yoga client who wants a refund because they weren’t able to do the down dog posture. Ridiculous things don’t deter a passionate person.

Passion Give You Inner Purpose
When you are passionate, you have a purpose. There is something that you want to do and change in you and in your inner world. This means that you aren’t concerned about the fact that your yoga practice is statistically likely to fail or that you will be paid less than you were at your last job. This is about you being you and doing you regardless.

Passion Outshines the Problem
When you do yoga and teach yoga, the world feels right. Clients call and book sessions and don’t show up; you are disappointed, but when you are passionate, all you think about is yoga. So, the disappointment is quickly outshined by an idea. You use the time to ‘yoga’ in another way. Perhaps you are writing a yoga book, doing yoga videos, marketing… and you love what you are doing.

Passion Isn’t Equal to Love, Money, Success or Fame
Yes, you need to make money. No, the universe doesn’t throw money your way initially. So, maybe you keep your day job and work on your passion for yoga outside of work.

If you are passionate, you might see your job as a way to earn the money you want to pay off your home or buy your yoga studio so that your expenses later will be lower.

Passion is Something You do Anyway
Besides, you figure, you are passionate about yoga, so, who cares if you go to work? You can work the stress off afterward in your yoga practice. Since you are enthusiastic about yoga, all you really care about is being able to do it, learn more poses, maybe go on a retreat with a yogi. You are spirited about any aspect of yoga: the truth is, you’d pay someone to let you do yoga and teach it all day!

Your Friend Say That’s All You Talk About
When you see yoga, think yoga, dream about yoga and are all but obsessed, that’s whey you are all about your passion. You know it is who you are and you can’t help but do it. You became this way because you focused on yoga, not work, not undesirable problems at work or clients. You focused on and grew your passion.

Passion Changes You: Makes You More of Who You Are
As you do, your relationship with yourself and the universe will change. You will do and be yoga. And that is when you will find it manifesting for you.

Then you will wonder what came first, your love of yoga or yoga’s love of you. You’ll feel like it came together and “chose” you and you’ll feel like the universe supports you, but if you really look at your process with clarity, then you’ll find that you lived your passion and your spiritual principles.

Passion is About Being, Results-free
Regardless of the results. As a matter of fact, you’ll find you have no expectations other than to yoga.

Turns out that the worst scam, in which you fool yourself, is the one that comes from misunderstanding how to live your passion.

Change your mind about how life should be. Life has problems, challenges and stinky bosses, cheats and clients. Life makes no promises and rarely keeps the ones you assumed were there.

See challenges and difficulties as something unrelated that can’t stop you. Only you can choose how you spend your free time, energy and focus. When you spend them on things that you like and enjoy, you become more interested. When you spend more time and energy on them, you get to know more so whether or not you really like that thing. Follow the things you like, that get your attention. Do them more and more to develop your passion.

When you have developed your passion, follow your heart. Use what life is offering, the problem job or any other opportunities, to keep following your passion on the side or full time. Either way doesn’t matter. As long as you get to spend some time every day thinking about, feeling about and focusing on your passion. Doing it is a bonus.

You can’t be cheated, scammed or shorted when you realize that you own your focus. You can be yoga, parrots or whatever you choose, whether you do it full-time or even at all. Your dreams and your attention are yours.

Connecting with your passion is a choice you make, which no one can take away.
