One of my favorite films in the world recently returned to Netflix over the weekend. The Forbidden Kingdom is a fantasy adventure full of time travel, Quests, secret missions, and my two favorite Kung-fu fighters; Jackie Chan and Jet Li. This could’ve been a recipe for disaster, but with every good Kung-fu film, there are always those masters that show the hero of the story how to be the very best they can be. Jet Li and Jackie Chan play off each other humorously as competing masters to the chosen one, meant to return an object of power, to an immortal that has been trapped in stone for over 500 years. The seeker is someone in the world of the Forbidden Kingdom that has been whispered about for years.

I’ve always loved the storytelling in The Forbidden Kingdom, the myths, the magic, the evil warlords, and the Hero’s Quest. The Forbidden Kingdom is essentially a story of the Monkey King who likes to play and fight all over the Forbidden Kingdom. All was fine until the day he pissed off the Warlord of the Forbidden Kingdom who challenges him to a duel and, of course, cheats.

It of course isn’t just the story and people that make this film so great. The Forbidden Kingdom is a beautiful, enchanting place full of wonder and beauty. Vivid green forests, endless…
