The Resilient River. Original image by me. C. Bjørnemose. 2021.

Follow the river
For the river knows a story untold to the listening ears
A story of remembrance travels.
And sings a quiet song of a heritage long forgotten.
The heritage of laborers who fought valiantly to be seen,
to make ends meet, and stay alive
Alive for the generation preceding and the one succeeding.
Struggling in a new land,
finding a new culture along with so many others.
Confused about who they were,
and slowly forgetting where they came from
while appreciating the value of hard work and the crops of life.

The river’s song continues down the stream
Chanting a hymn for the harvest on the land on its path
The paths that must be traveled to get closer to the destination.
Whilst still remembering the source
no matter how far it journeys, for journey it must.
The source from where all its stunning abundance and life is derived.
An abundance that impacts many lands,
tongues, and melodies of life.
Melodies of blood, battles,
love, peace, and dreams of a better tomorrow.

The river so steady and ever-present
tells a tale of resilience.
Prevailing through the cold of winter, and the heat of the sun.
However challenged, the river stays strong
although it must at times slow down, and be more scarce.
It never stops moving,
for the river knows it must keep moving to remain and prevail.
The river so withstanding and beautiful shine its light.
While breaking down barriers and through obstacles in the way.
The river has never given up and never will.
So follow the river and hear its song of a story untold to listening ears.
