As an individual who used to spend 7–8 hours daily on the phone, I developed a short attention span.

This technique helped me nurture a new habit and changed my perspective on writing.

Writing always seemed like a challenging task. Often, at times, I would get stuck after writing 2–3 lines as it either got boring or I was uninterested in the subject at hand. Staring at the blank paper and losing that sense of direction only contributed to the problem.

The question was: Why Start Writing?

Expressing my opinion on a piece of paper not only made me feel light-headed but also shed light on the thought process I developed. Penning down thoughts/ideas can help gain a deeper understanding and also raise questions on parts that need more clarity. It is one of the basic skills introduced to us as children, but in today’s digital age, we shy away from paper and pen.

We all have a story to tell.

This activity will help overcome the initial hurdle and draw out ideas you didn’t know existed in the first place.

Activity

This is super simple.

Step 1: Sit down with a piece of paper and pen or the notes/blank document on your phone.

Step 2: List in bullet points the top 5 things that come to mind.

It could be details about your day, Activities you are currently doing, thoughts in your mind, or observing things around you.

Step 3: Select one activity from the list noted down and just think about it for 5–10 minutes.

Write down all the points that pop in your head regarding that activity even if it means sitting ideally for those 5–10 minutes and having not written a single word. That sense of direction and focus you give your brain reduces distractions and helps think clearly.

Ideation + Execution = Impact

My Experience

This simple technique helped me develop a daily writing habit for the last two months. Not staring at a blank page and filling in the gaps helped me think clearly, and 10 minutes turning into 15 or 20 minutes didn’t take much time.

Remember, It's all about single small steps leading to a giant leap.

Conclusion

Your brain is your biggest ally and acts on what you feed it.

This activity will help you gain clarity and spark a creative mindset that is embedded in all of us.
