Why I Still Write on Medium

I remember the good old days of Medium — it was 2020, the time when lots of writers flocked here in hopes of building their audience and making good money.

When I first joined the platform, I had big dreams. My top priority was to build my audience and earn some money along the way.

With this in mind, I started writing every day and kept at it for two years straight until Medium threw a huge curveball — a dreaded change in algorithm, leaving many writers scrambling to make money.

But I didn’t just abandon ship, hoping that someday things would get better. And they did. Since then, Medium has dangled many carrots in front of writers, hoping to keep them on the platform. No matter how much I earned, I enjoyed the ride. After all, my joy for writing kept me going like a candle that refuses to burn out, no matter how strong the wind blows.

Months passed. My follower count grew, but my earnings? There were a few months when I could barely cover my membership fee, not to mention to buy a cup of coffee.

As tempted as I was to leave, I decided to stay and give Medium another shot. Being convinced that with just one more spin I might hit the jackpot, I kept churning out words. Not because it made sense, but because quitting would mean…
