Mrs Madhurima S Sharma, Director, DUCKLING Next Generation School, Jaipur

We asked Mrs Sharma to share her views on the future of Education and where technology is taking it. Here is what she has to say.

How do you think education is going to transform over the next decade?

“Technology will completely transform education, making application of knowledge more critical.”

“One of the key impacts of technology has been that memorising facts is no longer important, for Google being there for instant answers”

Application of knowledge is, therefore, becoming more critical. This has an immediate implication on the professional development of teachers. As now, the student’s universe is not limited to what teachers know.

How efficient is the current advancement of education with the latest technology, i.e. smart board, etc.?

“Mobile devices helps students in saving time and effort by easing the process of accessing and sharing information.”

Students prefer to use tablets, phones and other devices to share and transfer study material that saves their time and efforts.

By using smart classroom technology and interactive whiteboards and
smartboards, information can be illustrated with the help of photos, maps, graphs, flowchart and animated videos. This makes learning more attractive, exciting and easy to understand. It encourages the ability of students to learn and memorise the topic for a prolonged period.

How is your school working on integrating technology with education?

“Traditional classrooms are being blended with new technology curriculum to create a more collaborative environment.”

More or less, we are trying to blend the traditional model of education with the new technology curriculum because the traditional pattern has got its beauty and that too gives a stamping mark on student’s mind.

But to match the footsteps with the modern world we must take that opportunity to provide technology-based studies.

What is your opinion on the future of education, technology and job?

“Technical advancements are not just about destruction and substitution of jobs, but the creation of new types of jobs.”

All new techniques would give them a chance to be self-driven, collaborative, coming up with new ideas.

An educator must be expected to teach skills and problem solving for jobs that don’t exist. We should go for a technological study. It makes work more interesting, more productive.

What is the one message that you would like to give to the upcoming generation?

“Young generation are self-driven and collaborative. The focus should emphasise sustainability, citizenship, enterprise and globalisation.”

What sort of world should they be prepared for?

Our young generation is quite smarter than the ones like us when we were at their age. They are self-driven, collaborative, coming up with the new ideas. They think creatively and apply this across their entire life.

What I feel is that our young people need to have the skills they need to design their future, drive the new economy and solve the global challenges they face in the future.

Law always changes, and as a legal educator, we need to focus on transferrable skills such as legal thinking and writing. We not to focus not just on content, but we go about teaching. Students must look to the future by exploring such significant future-focused issues as sustainability, citizenship, enterprise and globalisation.
