After much time spent having exciting conversations, exploring all different types of questions, and a good bit of planning, our casting call is now live. Maria and I have thoroughly enjoyed the process so far and can’t wait to start working with the actors as the project develops. We’re seeing great interest in the project and enjoy watching the diverse talent already applying for this.

We encourage you to share the casting call with friends, and colleagues or perhaps even apply yourself. Over the next few weeks we will be sharing updates here through our Medium Publication as well as on Twitter and Instagram.

We really want this project to have a supportive and collaborative focus, not only in it’s message but also in how we work with everyone involved. We’re stoked to have this opportunity to explore some of the questions we find come up frequently in the industry and we sincerely hope it is a positive contribution to fellow performing artists in the United Kingdom and abroad.

If you are unable to afford the premium account needed to view this paid role on Mandy, here are the details of the role…

We are casting 5 female actors from 16–99 years old.

Pay is initially £60 per day with an expectation of 1–2 days per actor for the pilot episode.

I’m An Actor is a new documentary series exploring the lives and experiences of 5 female actors, their relationship to acting institutions, and the struggles and joys of finding out what it means to be a ‘successful’ actor.

This is a project produced and created by Maria Webb and Harry Knight. Two passionate individuals who want to advocate and support actors and the struggle involved in forming a career in what has been painted as a competitive industry.

To get the ball rolling a pilot episode will be produced, shot, and cut, for use to launch a crowd funding campaign to help with on going production costs, primarily to continue to pay the 5 actors for their time and commitment to the project over the year. There is an initial expectation that the project will require each actor to commit up to a day per month across the year. The pilot may involve slightly more time per actor but all of this will be open to discussion throughout pre production stages.

This pilot episode will explore some questions about your experience as an actor as well as how that relates to your personal life. All 5 actors are invited to partake in production discussions about further episodes (of which we plan to create 8–12). The pilot is being self funded however actors will be paid at least £60 per day for this initial episode.

When budgeting for further episodes we aim to fundraise an amount that is sufficient to pay each actor £120 per day. Days and schedules will be different depending on the activity of the actors but will never exceed 8 hours.

Self Tape

The intention for the self tape is for us to see you on camera delivering a few lines and answering one question. Using your phone or computer is absolutely fine.

These are…

Introduce yourself how you feel most comfortable as well as saying the line ‘I’m an Actor’. For example…

“Hi, my name is Maria and I’m an Actor”

Then finish the sentence “I’m an Actor because…” (we believe there is no right or wrong answer here because whatever reason you give, is what we’d like to hear. Feel free to go into detail or give examples but try to keep it within 30–60 seconds.

Please send your application to our email imanactordoco@gmail.com and include the subject line ‘Application for I’m An Actor Doco’. Everyone will receive an email acknowledging your email and interest. Because we will be replying individually, please don’t be discouraged if it takes more than a few weeks for us to be in touch.
