The arcade rhythm game “MaiMai” produce by Sega had made a big succeed in Asian countries.(However, not in America, cause there aren’t many people playing rhythm games in the US)
Rhythm games or music games normally use a lot of famous music in game to let players enjoy the game experience. However, famous music always require copyrights to be able to played in the public, so the game use social media to announced players when they add new songs into the game. Even more, when players achieved the score required in the game they can get collections such as icons or player titles in game. The game company also use social media to announced players if they have time-limited event of getting the icon.
Sometimes the company even have corporation with the original music maker and have randomly give-away event for players that had played the game in the specified time.
The tone the company normally use on their post is excited. I think this make people more likely want to play the game or try to encourage others to play the game. The company normally don’t reply any questions or join the discussion with players on social media. It’s probably because the company already have their own mail box for players who have issues or problems in the game. But normally they will have new post during holidays. (For example, they will have new post on new years eve and told every followers Happy new year.) I think this probably be a kind of Asian culture, just like the advertisement on TV during Christmas normally the company will have “Wished you have a Merry Christmas” or things similar like that in or at the end of the advertisement in the US.
Overall, I think the reason why company keep in touch with players on social media is because they want players to keep playing their game, and also showing that the company is still in a good financial status.
