My boyfriend has engaged in the post of fake news on his Instagram story. He took a picture of my languages in the airport and posted, “Taiwan, bye.” He tried to make the fake news that he was going to the United States. Most of his friends on Instagram were surprised about this news but besides our close friends, none of his old friends questioned the truth of this information. Their answers were like “Wow, it is so cool that you are going to the US,” “Safe flight,” “My brother is studying in the US too,” or “Are you going to study abroad.” While we seat in the airport before I passed the security gate, we looked at those replies. We were surprised as well. Because he never posted any information about going to the US before, many of his friends believe this news is true. We were laughing at these positive and encouraging replies at the airport. His friends didn’t know he was joking to them until he posted another story that I was saying goodbye to him. However, the replies of this post are not as many as the first one.
When he actually came to the US at the end of the fall semester and met me in NYC. He posted a story that I was staying in front of a Christmas tree and he typed “Christmas in NYC.” We didn’t mean to connect these two posts together since it has been half a year already. However, those friends who were tricked by him last time came back and none of them believed he was actually in the US. They said, “this must be the video your girlfriend sent you from the US.” This result was fun for me. Most of his friends believed the first post half a year ago and questioned the truth of the second post although the second one is even trustable than the first one. The first one was just a picture of some languages. Therefore, we conclude that being a man of his word is very important and we should never break faith with others again. Otherwise, no one is going to trust us again in the future.
