Social capital is the amount of influence you have on social media and in social life. This social capital can determine if you become famous on social media but it is not the defining property. You can be famous for playing video games, or makeup tutorials but not get any benefits from it except the attention from your followers. Your social capital determines if you can create any kind of change with your platform. To me, social capital doesn’t just mean how many followers

Now you must be wondering why I have a picture of a Chandelier. As the comedian Sommore in her comedy special Chandelier Status once said, “A chandelier is a common fixture. in this ever-changing world, it remains the same. It shines no matter what. Yeah, it gets older, but that just increases the value. When you’re a chandelier, you know a chandelier. Oh, and believe me, they see you.” When it comes to social capital, people believe that they have it because they have a lot of followers. It's easy to get a lot of followers for playing games or for doing make-up tutorials. However, I believe you become a true celebrity when you show off a skill that requires constant practice. So, professional actors, singers, dancers, depending on the work special effect makeup artist. They’re famous because they bring a talent for the world to see.

I believe that these famous people and these “Chandeliers” are the true influencers of the world because their name carries weight. Names like Beyonce, Jay-Z, Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Aniston, Tom Hanks, and the list goes on. These “Chandeliers” have social capital because they have the power to start movements and create change if they wanted to. This social capital differentiates someone being famous and someone being a “chandelier”
