The question of whether social media platforms should regulate users' data and be held liable is very controversial and interesting. Section 230 protects online social media platforms from legal liability for user-generated or human content. One of the downsides of this is the spread of misinformation or harmful information.

The Cambridge Analytica debacle underscores the necessity of having regulation and increased privacy needs.

However, I believe that Section 230 is good. I think that individual social media platforms need to do a better job of protecting data and limiting the spread of false information. In my opinion, social media is great for society when used correctly, but when hate speech and misinformation are constantly spread and unmonitored that's when things get negative.

One of the core pillars that America was built on is the freedom of speech. I don’t see Section 230 being changed because of how much Americans rely on their freedom of speech. However, I think that in general, our criminal justice system needs to do a better job of regulating specific people on the internet. In the future, I think spreading misinformation and committing hate crimes online should be illegal, and people should face punishment.
