We all know great designs has a critical role to play in building a great brand. But how do we go about making that happen? Our Design Lead has some three points to share.

Branding is a very important process you should start thinking about from the moment you decide to turn your idea into a business project.

In this article, we listed three of the Design principles you should have in mind when trying to assign your company with a powerful brand identity.

Three Design Principles to have in mind

Simplicity

As cliche as this sounds, it still works. Maintaining simplicity in your designs helps your brand in no small ways. Simple and minimalist brands are hard to forget. Think of a Louis Vuitton, a Versace, a Gucci. They all have simple brand elements like their logos, color schemes, etc. This helps memorability and ease of recognition for the brand. Also, remember to keep it short and simple.

Uniformity

This flows from simplicity. A rule of thumb in design for brands is to ensure that the designs are uniform all through. Think of it as a university. Every staff within the four walls of the institution from the cleaners, to clerks, to administrative officers, to the lecturers and professors are all working in sync to make quality education available for the students.

A brand designer must ensure this too. There must be uniformity amongst all design elements. Colours and shapes must be consistent and should not be tweaked or changed abruptly. Shades of red and passion immediately suggest to you that Coca-Cola is involved. Designs for a brand should be a strong advocate for the brand and what it stands for.

Compatibility

In designing for brands, it must be clear what and where the designs would be used. If it is going to be used for web, the designs must be optimized for the web. If it is for print, it must be so optimized. Usually, the color setting for the web is RGB, while print is CMYK.

Conclusively, Branding is not as easy as everyone thinks. Logos made in online logo-makers, rewritten slogans and poor selection of colours can hurt your company image. Companies that don’t give branding enough attention are not taken seriously and they tend to have a lot of trouble with attracting customers and business partners.
