This is the third in a series introducing our new Imagination Ambassadors. Through this program, we look to acknowledge and harness the energy of our experienced Chapter Leaders and to support and enhance their work in turn. Each has graciously agreed to serve in an advisory position to Imagination staff, and to assist in mentoring others and supporting the efforts and activities of the Imagination Foundation. We welcome and appreciate their willingness to help us grow!

Cape Town, South Africa

“My journey with the Imagination Foundation began in 2013 when I watched the Caine’s Arcade Video. A year later, I was running the first Chapter in Africa.

Running the Cape Town Imagination Chapter is an outlet for me to express my creativity and share my passion for making, creating, building, breaking and smiling. Our Cape Town chapter is a mixed bag of students from all backgrounds and a large age range. They are enthusiastic with a thirst for knowledge. We are noisy and we are messy — no apologies!

I reckon the coolest experience was working with the Imagination Foundation and Google to test drive the Science Journal app and have a film crew follow us around for the weekend. My favourite creators are my own kids and the kids that I teach — they share their Eureka moments when the simplest triumphs are achieved — they might not have invented a new form of transport, but they certainly do celebrate like they did!

Something about me that surprises people is that I am an elite athlete and still hold the world record for the short jump and the low jump!”

Watch Steve and his students from Living Maths in the Science at Play series, made possible by Google.
