Multi-model viewer for the web AR

Augmented reality is an evolving technology. During the last few years, many users have adopted this technology in many industries such as e-commerce, education, games, and fashion.

Single model vs multiple models in AR

You may have seen products in Augmented reality when you buying furniture for your home or when you tried Google 3D animals on Google model viewer or AR scene viewer.

A single object in Web AR

This was great but there is a major limitation. You can see only a single object at a time. At Imersian, we spent years researching to solve this problem by placing multiple objects in AR directly from the web and rotating, moving, and scaling individual objects using the mobile touch screen. The example below shows how you can see multiple animals in AR. How cool is this? You can create your own zoo in your space. You can add as many objects as you want. Similarly, you can do interior designing or compare product variants directly from a web browser.

How to create a multi-model AR scene

The main challenge we had during our development was defining a compelling user journey that allows seamlessly placing multiple models in AR. Considering different sorts of use cases, we found a couple of ways,

  • Predefined AR scene
  • Add items to a collection and view it in AR

Predefined AR scene

In this scenario, a set of 3D models are added to our 3D and AR viewer and the users can place them anywhere in their space. Consider a living room furniture package on an e-commerce website, a set of product variants of a handbag, or see all theropod dinosaurs in AR.

The example below shows a predefined furniture package. You can try this link to place these items in your space. Click the “Design your space” button (if you are reading this on a mobile device) or scan the QR code.

Add to a collection and view it in AR

Most of us have used add to favorites functionality on e-commerce websites. We wanted to enhance this well-known user behavior and allow users to see all the items in their favorite collection in AR. It allows users to mix and match products and make firm purchasing decisions.

Add items to favorites and see them in AR

We have described only a few use cases of the multi-model 3D and AR viewer. You may use it for many other use cases which we haven't discovered.

Our expectation is to open up this technology to anyone who loves creating AR experiences. If you like what you have seen above, you can sign up for our platform FREE at https://portal.imersian.com/register
