LinkedIn is a social network that focuses on professional networking and career development. You can use LinkedIn to display your resume, search for jobs and enhance your professional reputation by posting and interacting with other people.

Many people using LinkedIn failed to update and maintain their profiles. It's very important to keep our profiles updated in order to get connected with professional people on Linkedin. Most professionals tend to ignore the profile is not updated properly with necessary details like Job title, Profile picture, etc,...

I’m fortunate to attend a session on how to maintain a LinkedIn profile by the professional working at LinkdIn. This session was organized by Microsoft a couple of years ago at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (BITS Pilani) as a part of the Microsoft Students Partner Annual Summit. Here I’m sharing 5 tips on how to maintain your Linkedin profile.

#1 — Update your Profile Top Card

Update your Profile with a professional photo, a background image, job title, current location, and your organization and education information.

#2 — Write a Good Summary

Your summary is your chance to tell your own story. Don’t be afraid to invest some time, try a few drafts, and run your summary past people you know. This is your most personal piece of content marketing — and it’s worth the effort.

#3 — Your Experience

Update the Experience section with the organization you worked for, your designation, no. of years of experience and most importantly your day to day responsibilities and your major achievements.

#4 — Manage your Skills & Endorsements

Once endorsements start to come in, you might find that they skew the emphasis of your LinkedIn profile in ways that don’t reflect who you are. Be proactive in managing your endorsements list using the edit features in the Skills section of your profile — you can choose which to show, and which to hide.

#5 — Ask for Recommendations

Endorsements give people viewing your profile a quick, visual sense of what you’re valued for. Recommendations take things a step further. They are personal testimonials written to illustrate the experience of working with you.

I hope this will help you in updating your Linkedin Profile. If you’re interested, have a look into my LinkedIn Profile.
