This week marks a pretty important milestone in the development of the project. As of this past Monday (2/18), the Traditions space has been reserved and the department has received approval from the Student Center to work in the space beforehand to test the evolving versions of my Max patch in the coming months. With the space now reserved and a couple students interested in performing at the event, I am now also prepared to introduce the April 20th showcase date to the rest of the class. Approximately one month into the development of our thesis projects, the location, time and majority of the equipment parameters have been determined and accounted for.

In preparation for the work within Max, I sketched out the forms of the songs I will likely perform in April. This will help when assigning cues and determining color patterns and cycles in the patch and with the physical equipment.

During a brief meeting with Dr. Nakra earlier today, we also looked at Max patches that would be useful for my project. The first thing that we found was a patch called DMX 512, linked below:

This patch included an RGB tool that allowed a user to set the parameters of the light’s color and intensity within the Max patch. This patch may also act as a way to write cues through Max as opposed to having to do that physically through a lighting board. Whether or not this can be done within Max will depend on the exact equipment that the Traditions space uses, which I will examine for next week.

Within the next week, I will plan the specific dates that we will work in the Traditions space, and communicate with the SFB student technicians to arrange for a tech to be present at one or more of the rehearsals. I will continue the development of the Max patch at my appointment with Dr. Nakra on Thursday, and continue other content-related projects as well. I look forward to beginning to make the actual patch and working material that I will showcase in April now that I have completed the setup and preparation for the earlier event.
