Weekly Reflection April 24- May 1: Crossing the Finish Line
As the senior showcase drew closer I was eager to add some finishing touches to my project so I met with Josh Fishburn and some other students with better knowledge about the unity engine as to how to make the game more fun to play.
First I had to work on making sure the avatar was not coming too close to the camera in unity and this was accomplished by setting the y-offset on the kinect camera to 0 so it stayed in one position throughout the game. So the camera only captured movement from left to right and up and down but not forward and back.
Second I decided to make the game count the number of balls destroyed by the user up until the end of the song. So i placed a counter on the top left of the screen which counted every time the balls collided with the user avatar and at the end of the song, displayed a score.
Then I decided to work on how the balls were spawning. They were spawning based on an audio visualizer I created. The script set a threshhold that when crossed at a set frequency, spawned balls at the top of the screen. This made it so that any song could be chosen and played with in the game. The balls also had random colors and changed every time they spawned.
After making these changes I became confident the game was ready to be played and tested it a couple of times with different people who all enjoyed it.
