I loved this latest (2019) release in the Call of Duty First-Person-Shooter franchise, it is a reimagining of the Modern Warfare trilogy, and you will too. Here’s why.

For those of you who might’ve been living under a rock, Call of Duty is a classic, widely successful video game franchise that has games on all consoles and PC. There are many releases on different platforms, so it’s easy to get confused. See for example this list of many of the titles on the Call of Duty Wikipedia page.

The games are all essentially the same — they put you in the shoes of a soldier fighting across all sorts of battlefields from deserts to futuristic cities in cooperative or solo experiences.

In this installment, there are three modes: Campaign, Multiplayer, and a returning mode called Spec Ops. I was extremely impressed by the new game engine, which makes it look and play better than previous Call Of Duty games. I tested this game on my Playstation 4 Pro.

The campaign has taken a few elements from the past Modern Warfare games, such as some characters and parts of their backstories. I played the campaign in one sitting, which was a bit surprising since Call Of Duty campaigns are 7–8 hours.

During the campaign, you play as different characters with all sorts of backgrounds. One of the characters you play as is a CIA agent, whereas another character is a resistance fighter. The campaign is great from start to finish and leaves you wanting more.

The multiplayer brought back many of the staple multiplayer game modes, such as Team Deathmatch, Domination, Search and Destroy, and a few others. Besides the classic multiplayer game modes, some other game modes were introduced, such as Ground War (32 vs 32 on a huge map with vehicles) and Gunfight (competitive 2 vs 2). I played a few games of Team Deathmatch, Domination, and Ground War for this review.

The create-a-class system returned to multiplayer, but with a few changes. Instead of being limited to an amount of items you could equip, you can now add in one of each kind of perk, have a primary and secondary weapon, and two different kinds of grenades.

The gun customization was also given some major changes in that you can only pick 5 attachments for your guns or you can pick a premade variant of a weapon with a unique look as well.

Spec Ops first appeared in the original Modern Warfare games and made its return in this new installment, but with an overhaul. Not only can you play a survival mode against waves of enemies with up to 3 other squadmates, but you can also do missions with squadmates that continue the story from the campaign.

Overall, Call of Duty Modern Warfare (2019) is a must have for any fan of First-Person-Shooters or the Call of Duty franchise.
