Week 4 — Struggles with time

This week was a rough week.

I made my goals for each sprint pretty optimistic so I guess it’s to be expected that I would run into time issues, but I was hoping that it wouldn’t be this soon.

In week 4 I was trying to make progress on prototypes, and user experience testing so I can confidentially code up all the left over pages. I wish I had worked on some more prototyping software before entering this because trying to learn a software in a week, while still taking care of all my other work, was not plausible.

I started working in Adobe’s Experience software since it has a super clean interface, and I had some prior experience with the software so I thought it would be a natural way to go. Only problem is that it isn’t fully featured in windows, and getting my Hackintosh going again would most likely more trouble then it was worth. So I found a trial program called MockPlus, started working with that, and then realized that it a) wasn’t that easy to work with and b) it didn’t do what I wanted. On to Axure, which I switched to around Monday after I finally gave up on MockPlus. It is just as easy to work with, and actually does everything that I need.

Second moment of clarity, after finding a program to work with, was after I stopped trying to push the final design into the prototype, and instead focused only on the experience that the user would have clicking thru the webpage. So it’s basic looking but I wanted to focus on the functionality instead of the design.

Right now I have about half of the pages setup, but only in a standard webpage view. I am going to push back the due date of my user experience testing to halfway thru next week then switch over to coding so that by the time I get the information on user experience I won’t be to far in on the coding to change things up significantly.

That’s all for now!
