The Automobile Revolution

While writing this post, I sat across the “L” on the patio of the Merchandise Mart in Chicago. As taxis whizzed by, picking up employees who had just finished their work day, I was pondering over the impact that the adoption of the automobile has had on society. Not only did it connect people from far away places, but it also allowed humans to explore the world in a breadth that was unachievable until its advent. Henry Ford did something amazing. He found a way to make the automobile (historically, an unaffordable technology) available to nearly everyone. Ford had an idea far greater than the assembly line. He, unlike his competitors, envisioned

“…a car for the great multitude…It will be constructed of the best materials, by the best men to be hired…But it will be so low in price that no man making a good salary will be unable to own one.”

He saw the automobile’s potential. It was not to be playful-fancy for the rich and famous, but a catalyst for progress and change. Work, economics, medicine and even war transformed as Henry Ford’s vision for the automobile rolled out throughout the 20th century. This vision changed society. And through the advent of the automobile, the suburb was born. With families trawling away from rural areas and settling closer to the city, the use of the automobile led to the emergence of the word “commute” in the English language.

At Immersed, we are ridding the word “commute” from the English language by building an immersive virtual reality (VR) workplace, eliminating any need for a daily work commute.

Where is VR today?

The state of VR workplaces today is essentially non-existent. There are a few technologies that try to provide a solution, but, just like Henry Ford’s competitors, these technologies fail to take the regular consumer into consideration. These tools require a lot of overhead, and consists of mundane technology hosted on platforms that only work with bulky and expensive equipment. Heavy VR equipment starts at $500. With the restrictions of the current solution, an Immersive VR workplace doesn’t make sense for the average person. The current solutions are not only pricey, but they are bulky and restrictive. After setting up your VR environment, you can expect to look something like this…

Tethered to your desk? Try Immersed.

Unfortunately this model is not portable and certainly not scalable. Instead of being in a free environment, the current model chains you to your desk. At Immersed, we knew there had to be a better way. We have tried the current technologies and were highly unimpressed with the results. We realized that all current solutions were just mere workarounds, so we decided to pioneer a new mobile solution.

The Mobile Revolution

The mobile phone industry has already revolutionized the way we work. Having an infinite amount of information at our fingertips has propelled humanity further than we could ever imagine, and at Immersed, we are proposing the next logical leap in this workplace revolution. We want to bring cutting edge software to already adopted smartphones and laptops allowing everyone to be immersed in a different kind of workplace.

Utilizing mobile platforms that already exist will bridge the gap between nations to the point where each employer can build a global workforce with Virtual Reality. Just as the automobile allowed humans to explore their world unlike ever before, Immersed is confident that its technology will no longer restrict a person to a cramped, dimly-lit cubicle. We were not built for this reality. We were built to expand our horizons far greater than the three walls that surround us over 40+ hours a week.

“Don’t find fault, find a remedy.” — Henry Ford

With Immersed, going to work is as easy as putting on your VR headset, no matter where you choose to be. The phrase “the sky’s the limit” has never been more real than it is with Immersed. You can choose to work anywhere. From the intergalactic space station, to a prairie in Boise, Idaho, you choose your office.

Work anywhere in the world with Immersed.

In the words of Henry Ford,

“Most people spend more time and energy going around problems than in trying to solve them.”

Our aim is to revolutionize the remote workplace, and we want you to be a big part of that vision!
