Immersive Media - Design for the future
The world is rapidly demanding best of the best Design has to offer. Today, services and products are demanded and designed in such a manner that are no longer restricted to the traditional disciplines of design. I have done my bachelor’s degree in Architectural Design and I believe that it is the need of today and future for every Design professional and aspirant to be in control and understand the role of technology in any kind of Design discipline.
There is a constant race towards advancement in Design end-products. Let’s take for example a simple activity of grocery shopping. Over decades and decades of advancement of purchasing from Local vendor to creation of Super markets, to ordering online from ‘amazon pantry’, to the most recent of making grocery shopping as simple as it gets (or not yet) by means of ‘amazon go’ where the consumer gets to shop and exit the store without the hassle of waiting in queues at checkout counters. The consumer is billed on his account automatically on whatever items picked at the store, or deducted if placed back. And it won’t be long enough when it will be “Immersive Media” taking over this simple activity. Immersive Media is clearly the near future trend, where the fine line between products and interaction design is vanished; where our daily activities which now currently revolve around tons of different gadgets, will be reduced dramatically.
Immersive Media is a very delicate kind of Design to handle because the consumer is immersed into the media or the “reality” that someone has designed for him/her. I believe that Immersive Media tools which include Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Mixed Reality, Artificial Intelligence, etc. have a exponential potential in near future to pave a path to seamless human lives. It’s really very interesting and exciting and at the same time, it is a very responsible job to create Media which will benefit and only benefit the humans.
