Immersive Media Design — journey so far..
With a brief amount of idea about the course and a background completely different from one another, we six aspirants from six different locations, began our journey along with Prof. Shakti Banerjee to explore the dimension of Immersive Media.
We began our first day with a little interactive activity of creating a poster for our discipline with all our palm prints in a colourful fashion, as a memoir for the first batch, first beginning at MIT ID. We were then given an explanation about the course content and what will we be learning and what the profession demands. The course offers so much more in a way of being trans-disciplinary, advanced and responding to the present and futuristic needs of our generation. The newly emerging ‘Immersive Media’ can be called as the Industry Revolution 4.0 which offers mediums like Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, Artificial Intelligence, etc. to be explored in a much wider way. This course has the ability to expand into multiple and diverse sectors like Medical Science, Education, Performing Arts, Public Domain, Retail & Architecture, Industry Domain, Transportation, etc. We also explored tactile media in a group activity by means of engraving on clay.
Along with Prof. Yogesh Dandekar, we began with the first module regarding Narratives in Immersive Media. Our perspectives about ideation and ‘Immersive experience’ were broadened by the interactive session and the course related activity. We were also introduced to the design process of “Mind-mapping” as problem solving medium in Immersive Media and started off with creating one relating to ‘Immersive experience’ as a group project with inputs from every one.
We were introduced to the detailed concepts of ‘narratives’ and forms of ‘expression’ via the medium of the ancient Vedic literature of ‘Natyashashtra’ that explained in depth the techniques and various ‘Rassas’. Prof.Manasi Dandekar joined us for this very special module and it was a really exhilarating experience. We tried to understand how we can use the age old knowledge of expression and gestures in Immersive Media. It will be really useful to understand the natural form of human interaction while creating Immersive experiences.
