Are you deciding between immigrating to Canada and Australia? Here is some news for you.

Canada has been steadily increasing immigration since the 1980s and aggressively increasing recently to support the economy, whereas, Australia started increasing immigrants in the 1990s but moving in a different direction over the last few years.

Canada was aiming for 260,000 permanent resident arrivals every year which then increased to 300,000 in 2016 and now it has increased even more to 340,000. Australia, on the other hand, has reduced the number of permanent resident arrivals from 190,000 to 160,000 annually since 2016.

Canada is increasing immigration during the pandemic by issuing 11,700 invitations to apply under to express entry system in the month of April. In the case of Australia, the pandemic has created a significant decline in the number of invitations under the economic class immigration.

How immigrants contribute to each country?

Around 22% of Canada’s population and about 30% of Australia’s population are immigrants. They have a large impact on the country’s economy and job creation. International students contribute about $22 billion and $39 billion on Canada’s and Australia’s economy respectively.

Both Canada and Australia have an increasingly aging population and low birth rates which makes immigration necessary to support their economy. So, Canada’s rapidly increasing immigration goals could be an advantage for those considering immigration.
