Someone is telling a story about immigrants in every corner of the world. Too often, those stories are incomplete, inaccurate, or just plain dehumanizing. But most importantly, mostly not by immigrants. They reduce lives to numbers, papers, borders, and harmful labels.

This is why we need to start telling our stories in:

Immigrant Stories

We are a new publication on Medium — a growing collection of voices, accents, dishes, rituals, mispronunciations, border crossings, home makings, and home leavings. This is where myths spread by xenophobic rhetoric crack open, and people walk out.

This publication is for us to tell our own stories with all the complexity, simplicity, and, most importantly, authenticity needed for the world to understand who immigrants are.

If you’ve ever been called “from somewhere else” — this space is for you.

We are looking for writers who have first-hand experience with immigration and are ready to share those experiences with the world. You might be an immigrant or close to an immigrant community.
